Hey, welcome to the website!

Y'know, I'm a lucky man and I know it. I write songs. I make music. I get to share it with the coolest people in the middle of the greatest city on the face of the earth. And, we'll be out there in Central Park again soon.

I also love being able to reach as many people as I do through this website and the internet. The world really is getting smaller. (That scares some people. Me? I think it's wonderful.) And, with the dawn of Podcasting, things are getting really cool! (I'm gonna fire up an audio-Podcast soon. And, this summer we'll be shooting a video-cast at the gigs so you can all be a part of the show. You're friends and relatives all around the world will be able to check in here and share the experience with you.

Very cool.

If you're new here, by all means take a few minutes to browse the "Archives" okay? There are FREE songs to download and cartoons and Photoshop things.... lotsa cool stuff.

Yknow? I've been thinking about stuff.

BIG NEWS!!!

I realize that a small percentage of people don't really dig it when I put my honest thoughts and feelings about certain subjects in my songs and write about them here on my website. They don't undertsand the nature of what I do as an independent American artist, or the tradition of American rock n roll, folk music.... or the truly American concept of "freedom of expression". That's their problem. BUT! I have a solution!!! (Well, I have one that's not-so-polite. But being an easy-going guy, I also came up with this.)

In the interest of preventing heartburn, high-blood-pressure and gas for these folks, this is what I suggest. From now on...

Look for this image at the top of the page.

It's the "No-Politics" alert. On occasion, it'll be there and that'll mean it'ssafe for you to read on. You won't read anything you don't wanna know. You'll be safe that day.

Okay?

But, if you don't see that image, by all means leave right away and visit... y'know, uh... whatever website it is that you like.

Okay?

Cool.

.

.

Oh... but today is NOT one of those days.

.

Y'see... as we enter the FOURTH YEAR of war in Iraq… the fourth year of insurgency, civil war, torture, violence, and death… let’s do a quick reality check shall we? Let's see how "right on" these smart guys, and those people who support them, have been.

Now, now... we're not gonna talk abut being WRONG about an imminent threat from Iraq, WMD, world support or any abstracts and ideologies. Let's stick to basic humanity, decency, honesty and accountability shall we?

Well, let's see. Um, nearly 3 years ago on May 1, 2003 George Bush hitched a ride to an aircraft carrier in a halloween costume (What a dork!) to stand under a banner that read "Mission Accomplished" and said, "In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed."

And, over THREE years ago...

...on Feb. 7, 2003 tough guy Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld spoke to U.S. troops: "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months."

Nearly a year ago on May 31 2005, smart guy Dick Cheney said, "I think they're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency."

(Um... Dick... just since you announced that little gem of wisdom last year, 656 more Americans have been killed and over 8,736 Iraqis. Of course, in your mind Iraqi deaths might not count as much. But, still...Oh and, 1 78 year-old Republican lawyer almost bit the dust!)

Well, so... let's review. After hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians have been killed and horribly wounded, and after 2,525 coalition deaths; 2,319 Americans, 103 Brits, 1 Australian, 13 Bulgarians, 2 Danes, 2 Dutch, 2 Estonians, 1 Fijian, 1 Hungarian, 26 Italians, 1 Kazakh, 1 Latvian, 17 Poles, 2 Salvadoran, 3 Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, 2 Thai and 18 Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of March 23, 2006…

Dead.

THIS WEEK... this week George Bush was asked how long our American soldiers would be in Iraq?

"That, of course, is an objective... and that will be decided by future presidents and future governments of Iraq."

.

.

Whu?

We are through the looking glass. We are in bizarro-world. There simply is no defense for these horrible, horrible people.

I will keep writing about these things, and I will try my best to continue to put these Truths in a few of my songs. If you don't like it, please look for that "No-Politics" alert at the top of the page and save yourself the discomfort, okay?

Thanks again.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
