Are you planning to come to the Voices Together Concert in two weeks?

Hey, I know there are people reading this in different parts of the country and different parts of the world. But, if you are gonna be anywhere near New York City on January 28th, you oughta plan to be a part of this worthwhile event. (Besides, it is gonna be a really, really great night. We're gonna make a wonderful memory.)

More about the concert in a minute.

First... yesterday, 60 degrees around The Big Apple. If not for the torrential rain all day, it actually woulda been warm enough to head out to Central Park for an afternoon of music.

Of course, we would have had to gone over to the other side of the Lake... the place I call "The Away Game". Today, Central Park is covered in snow. Last week, photographer and nice-guy Sean Friedman emailed me this photo of "The Hill". Yeah, they've got it fenced off for the season. (Looks so lonely. Stark contrast to the times when it's filled with smiling New Yorkers and people from all over the planet, hah?)

So, yesterday afternoon, 60 degrees. By midnight, it was below freezing. This morning... snow in Central Park.

Amazing.

No, music in the park until the Spring.

So, okay... today.

Perspective?

Follow-up stories about the tragedy where 12 miners died in a mine explosion in West Virginia are still being aired all over the national "news".

Right around the other side of the planet, at least 18 people were killed in a series of 3 explosions in the little Pakistani village of Damadola. But, this was not an accident. These explosions were from missiles fired from a great distance. A 70 year old villager named Mohammad Rahim Khan, whose three grandchildren were killed in one of the three blasts, had this to say...

"We are the victims of infidel forces and God will destroy the infidels". This old man wept uncontrollably as he mourned the deaths of a total of 5 children killed in the blast.

Now.... I'm just sayin'.

Do y'think this might create just a few more enemies.... fuel just a tad more indescribable anger and hatred?

Let's see... um... what would be the opposite of hurting children in this so-called "war on terror"? What would do more to stop the violence and heartache? What might be 1000 times more powerful?

How about helping to heal their wounds.

Look we're not gonna be hangin' together in Central Park until the Spring.

But listen, if you're missing that feeling.... if you like being surrounded by good people and soaking up the music in the air.... please, please, please get a ticket as soon as you can to the Voices Together Concert. (It's two weeks away.)

Because the purpose of this concert is to get as much direct help to those children... and civilian men and women and boys and girls who are being hurt so badly on a daily basis in this war, specificaly in the part of the world we call Iraq.

C'mon!

The Voices Together Concert is right around the corner. Today.... make a commitment to yourself, okay? Make a decision that today is the day you are going to get tickets and rally as many of your friends to join you... people with good hearts and open minds.

The concert at Symphony Space, here in New York City, is gonna be a great night of music. This is not a morbid affair. It is gonna be a night of purpose, Love, fun, laughter, a few tears... but, mostly, I promise it's gonna be a wonderful night of music. (I have worked with all of the artists who are gonna be on the stage that night, and I am a genuine fan of every single one!) And, we're keeping our fingers crossed for another very special guest to join us.

The main theme of the concert is this:

Ordinary People... helping ordinary people.

Elissa Montanti

She is an otherwise ordinary New York woman from Staten Island who is doing extraordinary things. She has made at least 4 trips to Iraq to get badly injured people here to the U.S. so they can get the medical treatment they so desperately need.

Y'know... the men, women and children who are stuck in the middle of that war are not suffering broken bones and gunshot wounds. Their lives are being torn apart by air strikes and bomb blasts.

.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
