Man! What a great day in Central Park yesterday!

(A little problem there with a couple of parents of young children who kinda "don't get it". But, that couldn't possibly ruin the day!) More about that a little later.

'Cause, man! The rest of the afternoon was just another miracle of a day.... music, smiles... that "Hill" feeling.

And, Kathi Gillmore did show up to sing with me again. Very cool. I think she said she'll be out there next week, too. Keep your fingers crossed for the weather, okay?

Maybe I'll see you today over in Riverside Park at the "Storyteller's Hill", all the way down by the river, just north of the 79th Street Boast Basin.

Today, I've also got an announcement:

We've chosen the venue for the VOICES TOGETHER Concert in January!

Aha! But, first!

But... YANKEES!!!

(Whew!) After almost an entire season of chasing the Red Sox, they caught them and passed them on nearly the last day of the season. After 163 games out of 164, they clinched the division. (I was a little confused yesterday, because these two teams are soooo close. But, even if the Red Sox win today, the Yankees will have won the head-to-head series 9 games to 8. So, the Yankees are still the AL East Champions.

.

Now... for anyone who cares and needs just a little clarification about what happens today on the last day of the regular season.... the "What Ifs"... here y'go:

If both Boston and Cleveland win ...
The Yankees would still own the AL East title, due to having a 10-9 edge in regular-season play with the Red Sox. And the Red Sox will be the Wild Card and play at Chicago on Tuesday.

If Boston wins and Cleveland loses ...
The Yankees are AL East champions (see above) and the Sox own the Wild Card and play at Chicago on Tuesday.

If Boston loses and Cleveland wins ...
The Yankees are AL East champs. The Red Sox host the Indians Monday in a one-game playoff for the Wild Card.

If Boston and Cleveland both lose ...
The ultimate clarity: The Yankees win the AL East and the Red Sox are the Wild Card and open at Chicago on Tuesday.

Got it!?

Now, again... before I announce the venue for the VOICES TOGETHER Concert...

That little things about parents and kids out on "The Hill" in Central Park. Most parents out there in Central Park "get it". If they bring young children who rightfully have NO interest in listening to the kind of music I play, they sit way off to the side, or ask the kids to sit quietly with them for as long a a kid can stand it. But... a few parents...

Listen, I understand the temptation. I can completely understand some parents saying to themselves, "That Guitar Man. What a nice thing to do with a day! We pack up the kids, stop at Zabars, get some salads and a bottle of wine, listen to some music all afternoon, and let the kids just do whatever they want. They can play, while we hang out and chat while That Guitar Man is playing music."

The problem is... they don't realize that is genuinely thoughtless and a bit rude to the people around them. (And, honestly, when children are laughing and running up and down "The Hill", it's very distracting to a guy standing 30 feet away trying to play a love song.)

I love kids. Kids are just being kids. But, that's why they need parents... parents who are considerate enough to realize that while chldren are laughing and playing and throwing balls to each other, there are dozens of grown ups all around them just trying to quietly sit and listen to music. (Besides... I can get in trouble if people start drinking wine in Central Park. Please, have that kind of family picnic someplace else, okay?)

'nough about that.

Anyway... OKAY!

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
