Hey, thanks for stopping by the website today.

Man! I know some of you are reading this in other parts of the country or different parts of the world. But, here in New York... it is a picture perfect day. I'm hoping this weather hangs in until the wqeekend. The sun is shining and the breeze is as cool as the other side of the pillow.

I'm gonna head over to Central Park West this evening.. at 7:30... to be tiny part of the movement begun by Cindy Sheehan in Crawford, Texas. Now, I'm not at all sure I agree with Ms. Sheehan in her view of the current situation in Iraq... that an immediate pullout of the troops is the wisest thing to do at this point. I simply don't know. It's a nightmare that never should have begun. But, I respect the hell out of what she is doing. And, I DO know that WE are the governement in this country. I want to show support for anyone who will hold the Bush administration accountable for their inherently unAmerican actions.

Maybe I'll see a whole bunch of you "in the streets" this evening. you can sign up here. Or, just show up, okay?

(Tell 'em David sent ya!)

76th Street - - 7:30 (I'll be the guy with the guitar on his back.)

A little more about Cindy down the page, okay?

But, a far as my music.. and, what I do with my life here in New york City, the greatest city on earth... I'll be at all three of the usual venues this weekend. "The Hill" in Central Park on Saturday... the "Storytellers Hill" by the river in Riverside Park on Sunday afternoon... and, yes, on Pier 45 with my good buddy "Dodger" for the "Sunset Concert Series" on Friday night.

"The Hill" in Central Park

I know there was a little confusion last Friday night about how long the concerts on Pier 45 would run. I checked, and I can tell you we'll be making music out there, weather-permitting, at least for the next two Friday nights. (Until August 26th.) Maybe they'll extend it. We'll see.

Okay?

"Sunset Concert Series" - Hudson River Park

Thanks to Toni Dalton, Sean Friedman and Sue Hannah for sending in some great photos this summer!

So, what's goin' on?

Well... I'm gonna have lunch today with a really good guy from "The Hill"... a guy who earlier this year set Dodger and I up with a gig in one of the most fun and unusual rooms we've ever played... the "Harvard Club" here in New York City. I love sharing songs I've written like "Crazy on the Same Day" and "Where'dat Money Go?" in all kindsa places. I remember how delighted I was that the people in Harvard Hall reeeealllly dug them.

Yeah... can you imagine me and Dodger playing this room?

Anyway, I'm gonna talk to Arthur about getting involved in the VOICES TOGETHER concert.

What is the VOICES TOGETHER concert?

Y'know, I love this quote by Margaret Mead.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

Well, me and a small group of friends and colleagues are gonna try to make a difference in our own tiny way by putting on this concert in January. It's already a massive project and alot of work... kinda turning into a full-time job. But basically, we want it to be an intimate but extraordinary songwriters circle at the Hammerstein Ballroom, with some very special artists sharing their music for a vital cause... to get direct help to as many of the innocent civilians, the ordinary people in Iraq, who are being so badly hurt by the war. It will evening of music, laughter, some tears... but, most importantly, it will be a hall filled with good people who care about making a real difference in this world. It will be a room full of people who won't ignore the reality of this war, and who know that, while war is always abhorant and immoral, this war is especially so... and that civilians and children are NOT collateral damage. Somebody's got to take care of them.

It's up to us.

So also, I'll be announcing... hopefully in the next day or so, the launching of the VOICES TOGETHER website. It will be the place where you can get involved, too. We're gonna be asking for all kinds of help from all kinds of people... ordinary people like you and me... who wanna make a difference in these people's lives if we can.

This is not a time to sit by and do nothing. It's also not a time to talk... talk... talk... spout platitudes and blah, blah, blah.

Hey listen, we're gonna make it very very easy to reeeealllly help these people. We've found some remarkable people who are actually on the ground in Iraq. Hopefully, we will have the actual concert financed already, so that money EVERY ticket you buy will go directly to help these people.

I hafta laugh. Well, sometimes... I don't know whether to laugh or cry. So many people who support this nightmare of a war are soooo full of hot air and bluster. It would be funny if they weren't so blind to basic American principles and Truth. Either way... they are welcome to help in this particular effort too. It might do their souls some good. Who knows? That's not up to anyone but them.

As John Lennon wrote... "I hope someday you will join us."

I'll be letting you know more on the new website when we're ready to go live, okay?

Oh, by the way... one last thing. Saw this on CNN this morning.

Saw on the news this morning that the Crawford authorities, the local friends of psuedo-cowboy G.W., are gonna start clamping down on Cindy Sheehan in her quest to meet with George Bush. It seems she and the good people who are protesting his war are causing a big problem.

Seems... um... traffic... is a problem.

Traffic.

Uh.... TRAFFIC?

.

.

.

TRAFFIC!?!

.

.

.

See you guys later. If you see me around the streets of Manhattan today, say "Hey"... okay? That's Manhattan... where there actually is... um... traffic.

Thanks again.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
