Hey, sorry about that weak-ass rainout at the Pier last night. I got the call they were cancelling last night's installlment of the "Sunset Concert Series" around 6:00. Then it hardly drizzled. (But, there wouldn't have been a sunset anyway, I guess.) So, I called a couple of good friends and headed to the perfect diner.
Ssshhhhhh.
Okay here's a little shout out to my buddy, another David, from the Hill" in Central Park.
(CHANT) Aaron! Aaron! Aaron! Aaron! Aaron!
Y'see, we were up at Yankee Stadium about a week ago, and Aaron Small took the mound. Most everybody at the Stadium, including me, was still basically saying, "Aaron... who?" I turned to David and said, "He's my favorite Yankee. Well... if he wins today, he's my favorite Yankee for the next 24 hours, anyway."
He did.

Small was the winning pitcher for the Yankees again last night.
So, right now... I guess Aaron Small is my favorite Yankee, again. (Ha! He's 3 - 0 for the boys in the Bronx this season.)
Anyway, hey listen... I know there are people reading this in other parts of the country and other parts of the world, but we're gonna have a couple of special guests out in Central Park today. Wish you could all be here.

"The Hill" in Central Park
I love flying under the radar. I love having the kind of afternoons we have every weekend at "The Hill", and the only people who know about it are the thousands of people who know about it, or discover it each week. Still kind of a "New York secret" in a way. Y'know? It's very cool. Thanks... for everything.
Anyway, like I said yesterday, today the woman I've been writing about, Elissa Montanti (That remarkable woman who is one of the people my friends and I are gonna do a benefit concert for in January.) ...is coming out to Central Park. She's the one who is spear-heading an effort to help the civilians and innocent people, especially the children, who are being so badly hurt in this nightmare in Iraq. Well, she's been helping injured children from around the world, all under-the-radar and practically on her own, since the conflict in Bosnia!

Elissa Montanti
Today she is heading out to Central Park to hang with us for a while, and she's bringing the kids she is helping who were so badly hurt in the tsunami disaster. Remember some weeks back, here at the website I introduced you all to Tara and Hamdani?
. .
Well... thanks to Elissa and the people around her...

... these are the two kids who wanna come out to "The Hill" today!

This is the stuff of life. THIS is what this concert in January will be all about. I'll let you know more as it develops, okay? But, maybe I'll see you in Central Park this weekend and I'll have a little more to tell you.
If you wanna get your heart around the spirit of the thing, here's a link to a recent update. Go ahead and click on this link for the update from July 27th. And, then come back and go ahead and click on this link, too.

Um... okay... so, I will be in Central Park today, doin' what I always do. I actually wanna play a bunch of songs I've written that I haven't played in a while. Maybe run a few great old cover tunes at you guys.
Tomorrow (Sunday) I'll be back down by the river in Riverside Park, y'know, weather permitting. Check back here tomorrow, okay? I had a really great time last Sunday. We'll see how that grows down there. Gonna hafta play a few more "River" songs. (Hmmmm. Maybe I'll even reveal the secret location of... of... the perfect diner.) I liked it down there last Sunday, because it feels a little more like a "Storytellers" kinda thing... a little more intimate in a way. We'll see how it evolves.
Anyway... hope I see you all in Central Park today.
Thanks again.
