Wow...

Well, I'm saying "Wow" for several different reasons today.

First... summer's here. And, the weather is lookin' really good for a hot, lazy day in the park this Saturday. One of the beautiful things about playing where I do in Central Park is that about half of "The Hill" is in the Sun, and half is in the shade of those huge elm trees. Makes for a great choice. I love summer weekends in New York, when the whole town empties out and the pace slows way down. If you're staying in town, I hope I see you out there this Saturday.

And, tomorrow night is the first night of the "Sunset Concert Series" on Pier 45 in Hudson River Park. (That's in the Village, at the end of Christopher Street) Roger "Dodger" Bartlett is gonna join me again this year. That's gonna be a good time. These hot summer nights make for spectacular sunsets sometimes. The sun actually sets over New Jersey.

This is the Jersey City skyline these days. Wow!

"Who's my big city? Who's my big city? I remember you when you were this big!
Look at you now! Who's my big city!"

Anyway... it's a cool thing to do between 7 and 9 on a Friday night. Hope I see all of you downtown people.

Listen, I know there are people reading this all over the country and around the world. That's a very cool thing. Welcome. If you can possibly get a chance, try to get to New York City this summer. If you've been here already, and that's how you found out about this website... come back with some friends!

Tomorrow, I'll be talkin' more about the BIG benefit concert I'm planning with some really good friends and wonderful artists, to help the ordinary peoople who's lives are being destroyed every day in Iraq. Actually, if you want to get an idea what that's about, you can click here.

EVERYTHING YOU WANNA KNOW ABOUT THE CONCERT...

...so far.

We really wanna do something positive, to directly help those people who many people are simply ignoring or regarding as statistics. These are real people - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, children... babies... and, they need help.

But right now... the BIG "WOW" of the day goes out to Colin Powell. I saw him on the "Daily Show" with Jon Stewart last night. WOW! What a disappointment that man turned out to be. Last night, he described his job as Secretary of State, and basically stated that it was his job to advise and be loyal to one man... the president of the United States... and, that the decision to go to war was the president's.

No, Mr. Powell.

You forgot. You forgot something very, very important. (Yes, something other than the War Powers Act. But, y'know, most Democrats forgot that as well.) No, you forgot the most important thing of all.

Okay guys... right now... go to the "Forum" (message board) right over there. I've got a few questions for General Powell that Jon Stewart didn't ask him. (In the "Iraq Comments" thread.) Just a few... y'know... basic questions that would require a "yes" or "no" answer, and not the usual double-speak he's learned so well in the world of politics. In fact, anyone who supported this war might wanna take the simple little quiz. (But, the answers are yes or no.)

Listen, whatever you're doing today... make it a good one. Pay attention. If a great song pops into your head today, sing it outloud. And, remember, if you feel like it, you can use the "Forum" to write about whatever you want.... music, movies, Love, sex, each other, world events... whatever. Maybe I'll see you in there.

Maybe I'll see you around town.

Thanks for everything.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
