So far... this has been a remarkable week.
Y'know, a couple of years ago I wrote a song called "Crazy on the Same Day". I loved the song so much it became the title track for that year's CD. The thrust of the lyric is really this...
We take turns being angels for one another.
'Cause there's never been a day
When we all wanna stay
Under the covers.
We're just damn lucky that it works that way.
And, thank heaven we're not all crazy... on the same day.
.
I mean it about being "angels for one another." Angels seem to pop up in my life whenever I really need them. I think all you really hafta do is be open to them... keep your heart open and your mind aware.
Man! I love making music! And, like I've always said... y'know... I write the next song that wants to be written. But, after a brief coversation I had with a couple of friends last Sunday, about direction, and even the meaning, of what I do... actally got a little blue. Well, not blue. But, I was feeling a little lost.
Then, angels started showing up in the funniest, most obvious, practical and amazing ways. FIRST OF ALL, I got a cool and mindblowing message on my computer this morning that I TRULY wasn't expecting. Then, I had a diner-run with my good friend, Dennis, who reminded me of several things I already know. I also received a couple of emails on Monday and Tuesday... one that said...
David, I have passionate feelings about the "political stuff" and, other than you and Al Franken and Jon Stewart, I just don't see anyone else paying much attention anymore, and it rips me up inside. I am happy that you keep to your convictions and keep reminding everyone, overtly or subtly, that this country is f*cked up. But what is the real issue? What are people trying to tell you? Are they sick of hearing it completely or do they want your message adapted in some way so they can relate better?
Then, I got one from someone who was at "The Hill" for the very first time this past Sunday... someone I've never met, who just visited the website for the first time. And, part of the message said...
I have a deep appreciation for all you're doing, have done and have said here...including your sense of humor, insightful political comments and your escape from the insane pressures of this city to a far better place. Hope you keep on keeping on...It seems like you're on a right path...
Then... yesterday I was at a TV commercial audition, and a lovely woman who works at the casting office asked me about the outdoor concerts in Central Park. She said she's been out there and loved "The Hill". I told her that I feel there has been a "shift" in the kinds of people who understand who I am as an artist... and, who have fun with my stuff... and, that I wasn't sure about what I should do anymore. And she said, "Then, here... I know that these are for YOU."
Without hesitating, she reached into her handbag and pulled out several sheets of paper. On each was written one simple statement. I thanked her, got to the elevator and on the way down, I read them. Here are a few...
"As we listen to the intuitve message of our hearts, the society of which we are a part listens, too."
"Our interactions with each other reflect a dance between Love and fear."
"We are here to remind each other what it's all about."
.

.
Yeah, I'm better now.
Like my buddy, Dennis, said at the diner, "Dave, I don't see where there really is a choice."
Me either. I'm just gonna keep writing songs like "Crazy on the Same Day" and "The People on the Hill" and "Common Ground" and "I Love the Company" and "Internet Angel" and "Where'dat Money Go?" and the rest. And, we'll just see where the wind takes us.
Hey listen, thanks for stopping by. If you have anything to say about all this, or about anything, you can go to the "Forum" (message board) over there and jump in. It's there for you guys... even if you're reading this in another part of the country or another part of the world.
We're just gonna have a great summer.
"I Love the Company"
Thanks again.
