Well, thanks for stopping by today. Whether you are reading this in New York City, or you're reading this in another part of the country or another part of the world... welcome!
Here in New York, Spring is on it's way. Even though the air is kinda cold, I can feel the solar warmth of the Sun on the side of my face as I walk down Broadway. Remember, this year I'll be "Singin' in Central Park" on Saturday afternoons instead of Sunday. (No way to change the lyric in that song, though.)
Damn! I love making music. I love this town, and I love you guys.
Listen, James Marino (webmaster), the brains behind the operation of this website, is gonna take over the updates on this homepage next week. I got another one of those out-of-the-country gigs... the ones that don't pay any real money, but I get to spread the music and the word around, and spread some of the CDs around, too. Hey, we're goin' global! I'll be playing to a lot of people from all around the world. It'll be good to get to play the songs from the past two albums, "Crazy on the Same Day", "Common Ground"... songs like, "One Word" and "A Lot of Lonely People" and "City Song". But, I'll also get to sing some of the newer songs like "Tired of Being Lied To" and "My Morning Coffee" and "JesusLand"... y'know, and speak with them face-to-face between shows about things that are going on in this country and in the world.... let them know how nearly 5 out of 10 Americans feel about things.
Plus, I'm gonna be on a beach! So, THAT doesn't suck!
I'm also gonna concentrate on writing. Maybe not just music... I've got an awful lot of wonderful people in my life who are getting on me to get to work on another play, or finally get on that book.
As always, I feel like I just hafta start. Then, let whatever it is write itself. But... y'know... maybe I'll come back with a couple of new songs, too.
If I do, we'll roll 'em out at the concert at CAMI HALL on April 22.
Today is the TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the day I wrote "My Morning Coffee".
Because today is the 2-year anniversary of the day I turned on the TV and saw American bombs raining down on thousands of civilians in Baghdad. Of course, you won't hear much about it on the "news". This morning, I monitored CNN again for 40 minutes before the first story about our WAR was aired.
There was an arrest in Florida, there was a plot to kidnap David Letterman's son, Scott Peterson said a few things, airline travel is up, baseball players spoke to some politicians about steroids, Li'l Kim is in trouble, Michael Jackson is still, y'know, weird... there was a story about a guy with a sheep in a pickup truck...
... then, Barbara Starr did a story about the insurgency in Iraq and the discord that seems to be swirling in the attempt at forming a viable government in Baghdad.
So, maybe today I'll start a thread in the message board, to just honor the fact that there is still a WAR going on; to remember that this war we started is still going on, and people are fighting and dying every day. (We have no news media in this country anymore. And, unfortunately Americans don't seem to care all that much.) And, when asked about the war two days ago, George Bush laughed... again.
(sigh)
Balance, David. Balance.
Oh hey, if you want "JesusLand", it's yours for free.Give a listen to the new song "JesusLand". If you feel like it you can download it for yourself and pass it on to all your friends. I want the whole country to have it... for FREE!
MP3 of Jesusland! Click to download or play.
I had a lot of fun writing this song, and I've really enjoyed all of the feedback, both positive and negative, I'm getting about it. Keep it comin'!
Oh yeah... and if you want to, you can still contribute to keep this website running, and to help pay for the permits I need all summer in Central Park. It's easy to send a few bucks. James set up that PayPal thing up at the top of this page.
THANK YOU! To everyone who sent a donation. I'll be in touch with you guys. It lets me know that you all feel this website and "The Hill" are things in this world that are kinda worthwhile, and are both something you like being a part of.
Thanks.
I'll probably be baack to update this page a litttle later. Right now... I've gotta think about packing and playing music in another part of the world.
Thanks for everything.
