Well, I've discovered there are more and more people reading this from all over the country.

Welcome!

Y'know, I feel really good today. I've been watching what's been going on in the "Forum" over there (message board) ...and, I think I've come up with a tentative title for the concert at CAMI Hall on Friday, March 4th.
.

CHANGE - Personal, Professional, and what you need to get on the bus
.

Listen, you guys from around the country and here in New York City, before you go any further... if you want to listen to or download the new song, "JesusLand" for yourself, just click here:

MP3 of Jesusland! Click to download or play.

It's FREE. I want the whole country to have it.

Anyway, speaking of change. Y'know, years ago an old woman once said to me, "David, change is easy... resisting change is a son-of-a-bitch!" Yeah, she was right.

It's so funny. I have a feeling there are people out there who think of me now as a brooding, angry, malcontent, who sits at a computer with clenched fists and a scowl. (No, no, you're confusing me with Ann Coulter.)

Nope. I love making music. I love writing. I have so much Goodness and Love all around me that, often, I can't put it into words. I'm such a lucky man. It's all cool. It's all just, y'know... life.

But, I gotta write what I gotta write and put it into my work. It's a decision I've made and it feels really good. Woody Guthrie said something like, "It's not enough for a song to be good... it oughta be good for somethin'" Sometimes, the purpose of a song is to touch a heart. Sometimes it's simply to inspire a smile or laugh. Sometimes it's just to let us know that we're not alone. (It's just us.) But, sometimes it's to make a point or a statement. (Something that's been lost in the corporate, Clear Channel, Viacom, Time-Warner culture of America today.)

I write all kinds of stuff. For me these days, to deny any one of those reasons for a song is to stifle the Creative Spirit.

I breathe better, think clearer, and have less gas when I write what wants to be written. So, I'll take the crap from the people who don't understand this basic idea, who simply don't get it... those who read into a song what isn't there, or cannot face a statement of Truth as I perceive it. No big deal. It's a shame, though. Those folks miss out on the rest of the fun! There's a very specific demographic who should get really pissed off at things I say in a song like "JesusLand".

Well... um... maybe Christian Conservative leader, Rev. Jerry Falwell...

"You've got to kill the terrorists... I'm for the president to chase them all over the world. If it takes 10 years, blow them all away in the name of the Lord."

In the name of the Lord!?

Hmmmm... inspiration for a song? Hmmmmm. Sorry, kids... if you call yourself a Christian and don't have a problem with things like that which are sooooo common in America these days, you're just fuckin' loony, not very honest or fair-minded, or deluded by political ideology.

I've been getting a bunch of email from those folks. But, it's very cool that the rest of you also let me know you're out there. (Hope you plan to come to the gig at CAMI Hall a week from Friday so we can smile and laugh together.)

We'll have a blast!

(We always do.)

I guess the whole point of this thing is that inspiration is a magnificent, but very, very simple thing if I pay attention... and, then have the balls to take the action, no matter what the apparent cost, no matter what I may discover about myself or the world around me. I'm okay with that.

Thanks for stopping by today. Maybe I'll see you in the "Forum" later.

Oh yeah, it might be a good idea to reserve a seat for the CAMI Hall show. If you wanna do that, just click onn that thing over there on the right. But, there's been a little confusion about this... when you reserve a spot for that concert, you don't get tickets in the physical sense. Instead, you're name is automatically placed on the "guest" list. So, all you hafta do is show up that night and give your name at the door. The seating is general admission.

Okay?

I'm trying to work out the details, but we're gonna RECORD the concert for inclusion in a proposed satellite radio show. If you're there, YOU WILL BE A PART OF THE SHOW.

Anyway...

...thanks again.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
