Thanks for stopping by.

If you're reading this in another part of the country, or another part of the world... welcome. Take a look around the site. We'll be importing the "Archives" from the last year or so very soon, so that you can go back and check out what we've been up to around here.

But, if you're in or around New York City, try to make plans with your friends to come to the next concert on March 4th. (I'll get into that later.)

Today... (whew) ...today.

Let me say this.

I've learned a lot of lessons over the years of living in New York City, living with all different kinds of people from all around the world, writing music and playing music around this town. I've learned a few really important lessons here on this website, mostly by fucking up and getting things wrong.

It's a wonderful thing that I came to understand about 10 years ago... that when I get something right, it's a lot of fun. When I get something wrong... that's when I learn something. Only then. I never learned anything new by "getting it right".

So, I don't fear being wrong at all anymore. The thought kind of excites me in a very subtle way. Very often, there is a song in there somewhere, or a nugget I can share with those around me in some other way.

But, one thing I've learned on this website is this.

It's wonderful to keep my mind open, and my thoughts and feelings free-flowing, to be unapologetic about my art... to keep my heart open, but the details of my private life off of the internet.

Let's just say this.

Had a really rough night last night. But, the Sun is back out today.

Feels wonderful.

SO!

I wanna share some lyrics with you.

COMMON GROUND
©2004

Raise up a flag. Come blow the horn.
Forget the truth you knew when you were born.
Teach your children, as you whisper in their ear,
Teach them the reasons and the need for their fear.

Draw them a map, one that defines
All the nations of the world separated with black lines.
Never mind a bird that's sailing high up in the winds,
Looks down, and can't see where one ends and one begins.

Someday we may be bound
To tear the borders down.
That's the day we'll meet... on Common Ground.

Shout from the left. Shout from the right.
Scream that it's day, if the other swears it's night.
Raise a banner up, defend it with pride,
Pausing only to attack the other side.

Yet, all of those who play that tired game
Won't get beyond the finger-pointing and the blame.
They'll stay locked inside this darkeness 'til they see
The power of an open mind is still the key.

Someday we may be bound
To lay those banners down.
That's the day we'll meet... on Common Ground.

I still recall one high school afternoon,
The first photographs of our planet from the moon.
Silent, sky-blue island spinning in space.
Since then I've felt... it's such a tiny place.

Someday we may be bound
To lay our anger down.
The truth is we all live... on Common Ground

Someday we may be bound
To lay our hatred down
The truth is we all live... on Common Ground

Now, I have NO idea why I needed to post those lyrics today. I'm reading a fantastic book called "What We Do Now", and today I honestly feel deep down that the divide in this country is so great, and the ideology of many neo-conservatives and extreme Christian fundamentalists on the right is so dangerous, intolerant and inherently unAmerica that it makes these lyrics that I wrote seem more like an impossible dream.

That's okay.

It is an ideal. I wrote it as a perfect ideal.

As an artists and as a man, it is my dream.

So...

Well, CAMI HALL is comin' up!

You can get tickets for that show by clicking on that thing right over there. March 4th is a FRIDAY NIGHT. Woo hoo!

I will be doing the new song "JesusLand" as well as all the tunes you guys love to sing to.

"Crazy on the Same Day"
"A Lot of Lonely People"
"Just Hafta Trust Me"
The People on the Hill"

But, I think you're reeeallly gonna dig what we've done with...

JesusLand_3.jpg

Actually... not ALL of you are gonna dig it. It's a song that can easily be taken the wrong way.

I'm countin' on it!

Anyway... listen. Jump into the "Forum" if you feel like it. Like I always say, if you've got a problem with anything I write here, go into the "Forum" and speak up. If you agree with any thoughts and have something to add, speak up.

If you wanna talk about Love, Life, movies, music... anything at all... go on and speak up. That's what it's there for.

Maybe I'll see you in there later today.

Hope I see you at CAMI HALL on March 4th.

Thanks again.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
