Okay, you coming to the SoHo Playhouse tomorrow night?
C'mon!
Just to break up the gray of winter. This could be another fun little "New York Secret" for us.... like "The Hill". Y'know, when you think about it, we've been singing out there in Central Park for so many years, and really no one from the media or the music business has ever really discovered it. That's kinda weird and kinda cool at the same time. Maybe this'll be the same kind of thing. Just a real, grass roots, word-of-mouth, "It's Just Us" kinda thing.
Remember, while we're first starting out, there isn't really gonna be any food, but there is a full bar, y'know, beer, wine, soda, mixed drinks, bottled water... the works. So!!! Grab something to eat before you come to the theater!!!
There's a nice little diner DIRECTLY across the street from The SoHo Playhouse. I mean, 40 feet from the front door. So, if you want, just get down there a little early and grab something there, and then cross the street to the theater at 7:00. (Sorry if I told you guys that there would be stuff to munch on. I thought there would be.)
Dana Matthow, the producer, wants me to develop a music theater experience... a theater-musical-storytelling-audience-something... to run every week.
I've decided the key word here is "develop". So, that's what I wanna do... start with that blank canvas I've been talking about for the last few weeks, y'know, start at absolute zero, with a guitar and a chair and a microphone. But, I think it would be best if I had YOUR help. In other words, do what we do in the park, and as we go along I'll be asking for your feelings about the things we're going to try in this theater. (You'll understand what I'm talking about when we get down there on Tuesday.) The cool thing is that you will all be a significant part of whatever comes out of this little creative experiment. If it bombs, years from now you can say, "Oh man, what was that!?" If it turns into something really special down the road, you can say, "I was there at the very beginning of that!"
Anyway, one of the things I'm kind of excited about is playing a couple of brand new songs for you guys. Kind of a debut for a couple of songs that, even though I'm the one writing them, I kinda like alot. I love it when that happens.
By the way... the SoHo Playhouse is really easy to get to. It's sandwiched right between 2 subway lines so you can take the C or E right there (Spring Street) or the 1 and 9 right there (Houston Street - get off the front of the train and you're a block away.)
Hope we all have a great time on Tuesday. Y'know that "Hill" feeling... that "Merkin Hall" feeling. Let's bring it downtown. And, I hope you guys make a point of hanging out a little after the show to kinda get to know each other if you want.
Thanks again. Hope I see you tomorrow night.
